CAMPUS BUS (BA-BUSS-IUBLA)

Since 1966, Indiana University(IU) Campus Bus Service has been providing bus service on the Bloomington campus. IU Bloomington's 1940-acre campus is oftenconsidered one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation and isset in USA Today's #2 Best College Town in America.

IU Bloomington is home to over 48,000 undergraduate and graduate students and over 19,000 faculty, staff, and part-time employees.

Campus Bus provides transportation to over 3 million rides a yearand operates a 6-route system with approximately 30 buses, 50 busoperators, 4 mechanics, and a management team. It has along-standing partnership with the local transit system, furtherextending its reach and resources.

Campus Bus is a business unit within Auxiliary Business Services(ABS). ABS operate in a shared services model that supportsfinance, human resources, payroll, and marketing needs of Campus Bus.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Operates a public transportation vehicle in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining positive customer relations withpassengers, drivers of other vehicles on the street, andpedestrians.
• Monitors the safety and mechanical operation of the public transportation vehicle assigned by constant attention to safety and mechanical devices and warning signals, such as the following (forthe purposes of illustration only): the speedometer, watertemperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, engine warning lights andbuzzers, etc.
• Operates mechanical and electronic devices on the public transportation vehicle, including front and rear doors, wheelchairlift or ramp, wheelchair securement devices, bus kneeling device,radio, Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) devices, passengercounters, destination signs, public address systems, heating andventilating equipment, safety devices and warning lights, etc.
• Conforms to all University, local, state, and federal laws,rules, and regulations applicable to public transportation operations, including (for the purposes of illustration only),performing the following: pre-and post-trip inspections of thepublic transportation vehicle assigned, ADA required announcement sand assistance for passengers with disabilities, etc.
• Prepares logs, forms, and reports on the ridership and operations of the assigned public transportation vehicle.
• May be assigned other duties not related to operating a public transportation vehicle when their services are not needed for driving, such as clerical, courier, public transit informationduties, etc.

This position is posted at the Intermediate Career Level butmay be filled at the Foundational Career Level depending onthe candidate's qualifications. Although they will be similar, theduties and responsibilities may differ if filled at the lower rank.

EDUCATION

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
  AND
• Completion of bus operator training program.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 1 year of experience driving public transportationvehicles.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required
