The Role

Safety Coordinator responsible for mitigating job‑related accident risk, monitoring operations to eliminate hazardous activities, and promoting occupational health and safety awareness in collaboration with the Team Safety to achieve zero‑incident worksites.

Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 (may vary based on experience).

  • Provide general administrative support (typing, copying, routing, faxing, mailing, filing, etc.) to the Safety Team.
  • Compile and maintain new‑hire and safety packets for new union employees.
  • Organize and keep records concise to support company‑wide safety and health information gathering.
  • Order, receive, stock, and track safety inventory.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Communicate effectively, present information, respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public. Draft routine reports and correspondence.
  • Email data into and maintain the Safety database system.
  • Design and run reports.
  • Identify and recommend project customizations, enhancements, or workarounds to improve the system.
  • Monitor expiring certifications and safety training requirements.
  • Serve as SME and administrator for the system.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near‑misses and manage the accident investigation process.
  • Determine causes of accidents and assess preventability.
  • Interview customers, managers, and employees to learn about work environments and incidents.
  • Respond promptly to real and perceived emergencies (hazardous material spills, fire alarms, odors, indoor air quality concerns) during regular hours.
  • Tour shops with Foremen, Superintendents, and Project Managers to identify hazards and unsafe conditions. Intervene in unsafe activities.
  • Conduct new‑hire orientation and site‑specific safety training for new employees and crews (fork‑lift, aerial lift, fall protection, trenching, confined spaces).
  • Administer random drug and alcohol testing program, including receiving results and determining impact on driver qualification.
  • Stay current on legal changes to safety and health codes.
Accountabilities & KPIs
  • 100% training and certification completion and documentation.
  • OSHA/WISHA compliance audits.
  • Incident management.
Key Meetings to Attend
  • Monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
  • Foreman Meetings.
  • Job turnover meetings.
Capabilities
  • Basic understanding of WISHA/OSHA and familiarity with DOSH requirements.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships.
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Work independently with limited supervision while being a team player. Dependable, organized, and self‑motivated.
  • Strong presentation skills for speaking before managers, customers, and employees.
  • Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Physically able to negotiate difficult conditions on job sites, including climbing stairs, riding in scissor or boom lifts, and working in hot and cold environments; obtain approval to walk job sites.
  • Support field personnel and customers on projects, with flexibility for site presence before and after scheduled hours as required.
  • Walk and maintain balance over rough, icy, or muddy ground; climb stairs and ladders; work safely at heights without fear; and work effectively while exposed to the weather for long periods.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2 years administrative assistant experience.
  • 1 year experience in safety in the construction industry.
  • Intermediate PC skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and ability to learn other computer systems.
