Civil Designer

Contract-to-Hire Opportunity

Location: Bloomington, MN

Our client is seeking an experienced Civil Designer for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Bloomington, MN. This role will support a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects and clients. The Civil Designer will perform various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical design, preparation of construction plans and specifications, and report development while working as part of a collaborative project team.

• Design civil engineering projects including:
  • Site design and land development
  • Roadways and traffic control
  • Storm drainage systems and stormwater management facilities
  • Water and sanitary sewer utilities
  • Sediment and erosion control
  • Facility and site infrastructure design
• Execute civil design assignments using prescribed methods, standards, and software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  .
• Prepare drawings, layouts, figures, and construction plans following established drawing sequences and presentation standards.
• Size system components and refine rough sketches into final design documents.
• Execute design revisions, updates, and markups on active projects.
• Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and topographical or geologic data to support planning and design efforts.
• Incorporate applicable design codes, standards, and specifications into project deliverables.
• Review design drawings for quality assurance while maintaining scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
• Prepare volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and upland site grading.
• Integrate project schedules, budgets, and criteria into civil layouts and designs.
• Manage revisions to drawings, plot files, and project documentation in a logical and well-organized manner.
• Coordinate design and drawing production with engineers, project managers, and other designers.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Education & Experience (one of the following required):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Associate Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
  • 9+ years of progressive civil detailing and design experience
• Expert-level proficiency with civil design software, including:
  • AutoCAD
  • Civil 3D
  • Micro Station
  • Microsoft Excel
• Strong expertise in civil design principles, calculations, and design systems.
• Advanced understanding of civil engineering theory and practices, with working knowledge of related disciplines as they interface with civil design.
• Ability to operate related discipline design software as needed to support production tasks.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multi-discipline project team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
