As a Structural Staff Engineering Technician, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to support Grid projects such as Overhead Transmission Lines, and contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems for advanced industrial and commercial facilities. You will perform technical tasks under general supervision and use AutoCAD, Micro Station, and PLS‑CADD to develop and modify structural models, drawings, and details, providing technical guidance to other professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Functions in a project engineering technician capacity.
- Supports engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables under general direction.
- Applies foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions.
- Utilizes digital tools and design software (CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
- Provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
- Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures.
- Reviews project requirements and determines the correct format and contents of required deliverables.
- Applies BV Quality Program to deliverables, demonstrating personal accuracy and supporting continuous improvement and change management efforts.
- Reviews design inputs for consistency, ensuring deliverables comply with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project.
- Applies basic engineering principles and practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
- Begins to apply judgment and make decisions regarding deliverables and input interpretation.
- Capable of handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and can provide technical guidance to other professionals.
- Performs design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records.
- May review the deliverables of others.
- May define work assignments and maintain schedules.
- May program control systems or participate in other plant start‑up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise.
- Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
- May support field activities, focusing on internal client needs while understanding external client interests and drivers.
- Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of the latest technologies and processes.
- May apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.
Diploma or Certificate preferred. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
Minimum QualificationsTypically a minimum of 5 years related work experience. All applicants must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements including background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle record searches in compliance with applicable laws.
Work Environment / Physical Demands- Typical office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use; requires focus and attention to detail throughout the workday.
- Physical tasks during site visits such as crouching, grasping, and extended standing/walking may be required.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.
