Overview

Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer in the Minneapolis, MN area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role involves working with clients to ensure high-quality deliverables and gaining expertise in areas such as NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. This position is hybrid: 3 days per week in the office and 2 days per week remote.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of electrical distribution work packages; perform engineering design and analysis; potentially work on programmatic/capital/reliability design (e.g., 3rd party attachment/Make Ready, overloaded transformers, reconductor, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR, underground, etc.).
  • Be responsible for QA/QC tasks on the assigned team; participate in quality reviews of the team’s designs prior to submittals for client projects.
  • Review engineering design packages with clients; review and organize existing program work.
  • Perform scope analysis of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to support client priorities.
  • Interact directly with clients on a frequent, as-needed basis.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assist with work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
  • Be comfortable in both field and office settings; the role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will aid in developing work packages.
  • In the future, participate in the hiring process for the team’s growth.
Background Requirements
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in electric distribution projects in a consulting environment for electric utilities or experience working directly for an electric utility.
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; additional relevant experience can be considered in lieu of an engineering-specific bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience and proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Experience with engineering design quality control.
  • Familiarity with Pole Loading software (O-Calc, Pole Foreman, etc.) and distribution pole analysis.
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle; some customer-related travel could be anticipated (travel reimbursed per IRS-approved rates).
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; customer-site visits to collect field data may be required.
  • Candidates should possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • EIT Certification.
  • Previous QA/QC experience.
  • Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC.
  • Demonstrated history of customer interaction.
  • Proven experience and proficiency with STORMS software and GIS is preferred.
  • Leadership experience is preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $73,450.00 – $. The pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Final offer depends on responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, market data, and applicable agreements.
