The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, supporting Grid projects such as Overhead Transmission Lines. The Structural Engineering Technician contributes to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support advanced industrial and commercial facilities. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects.

Under general supervision, the position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, focusing on creating and modifying structural models, drawings, and details using industry‑standard design tools such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, and PLS‑CADD.

Key Responsibilities
  • Function in a project engineering technician capacity.
  • Support engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables under general direction.
  • Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions.
  • Utilize digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
  • Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures.
  • Review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables.
  • Proactively apply the BV Quality Program to deliverables, demonstrating personal accuracy and supporting continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Review design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable codes and standards suitable for the project.
  • Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and maintain records.
  • Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
  • Support field activities and focus on the needs of internal clients while understanding external client interests and drivers.
  • Seek and share knowledge of latest technologies and processes, applying judgment in deliverable and input interpretation.
Preferred Qualifications

Diploma or Certificate preferred. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Typically a minimum of 5 years of related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) as required by law.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Work in a typical office environment, requiring prolonged periods of sitting and computer use and strong attention to detail.
  • Field visits may involve physical tasks such as crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods.
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.

Salary

In accordance with local law, the following hourly compensation range is applicable for this job: $34.13 - $59.71
