Job Summary:

You will have the ability to provide engineering and technical support services associated with the design, construction, and operation of CenterPoint Energy
's overhead & underground distribution system.

• Review and analyze customer submitted site plans, structural drawings, electric one‑lines, schematics, and load analysis.
• Design underground facilities for electric service.
• Prepare cost estimates and Terms & Conditions packages for electric service to customers.
• Inspect customer‑required construction to approve or disapprove.
• Prepare work orders, easement documents, agreement letters, and operational agreements.
• Perform cable pull analysis, protective device coordination studies, motor start, and fault current calculations.
• Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards (e.g., National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code).
• Support the construction, operations, and maintenance of the distribution system through communication with field personnel and customers.
• Gather and analyze data, prepare written reports, and give oral presentations related to distribution systems.
• Prepare new or revise engineering/technical specifications.
• Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors, and internal departments.

• Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university.
• Or, sixty hours of credits in an engineering discipline and at least one year of on‑the‑job technical experience in an engineering or electric utility environment.

• Two years of experience in construction, utility operations, utility support roles, or related industry experience.
• Ability to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations.
• Ability to interpret, analyze, and produce electrical models, drawings, and technical documents.
• Ability to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions.
• Ability to make informed decisions, follow procedures, and comply with policies based on knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy
  .
• Ability to calculate system short‑circuit quantities using sequence networks.
