Position: Assistant Group Manager / Professional Engineer - Water Resources

Overview

Our employee-owned and integrated team of multi-disciplined engineering and design professionals is looking for an experienced water resources engineer with progressive technical knowledge and engaging mentorship skills to join our team in a new role as the Assistant Water Resources Group Manager in Saint Paul.

Resides within a regular commuting distance of the Saint Paul, MN office. Flexible work arrangements (3 days in office / 2 days remote per week) may be considered for those who have demonstrated the ability to work well in a hybrid environment, with self-motivation, initiative, teamwork, and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with leading a team of engineers, hydrologists, scientists, designers, and technicians to design, model, and develop storm water drainage and management systems for DOT, county, city projects in Minnesota, Class I railroad projects nationwide, and other private client projects nationwide.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentorship and conduct performance reviews with direct reports, outlining professional growth and development objectives aligned with their goals and business needs.
  • Monitor workload distribution and assist with resource allocation based on availability, technical competencies, and development opportunities.
  • Develop and implement technical specifications; communicate requirements to team members and revise/design as necessary to ensure consistency with design standards and deliverables.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews on work performed by direct reports and assist the Water Resources Group Manager with reviews of work by lead and senior team members.
  • Serve as a lead engineer on project assignments and assume project management for significant/complex projects or those of strategic importance.
  • Facilitate proposal development efforts, represent TKDA at project interviews, and engage with current and prospective client representatives at local and regional conferences.
  • Assist the Water Resources Group Manager in outlining annual market development plans to enhance and expand awareness of service offerings and capabilities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in civil or environmental engineering with an emphasis on water resources.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Ten or more years of progressive experience designing and modeling large-scale stormwater management system projects.
  • Experience leading and/or coaching a team of civil/water resource design professionals with varying competencies, knowledge, qualifications, and experience.
  • Experience or aspirations to manage technical and financial aspects of multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Proficiency with Civil3D for design and HydroCAD, Open Roads, GIS, SWMM, and HEC programs for drainage modeling and analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT design standards and deliverable requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply written and verbal communication and presentation skills in proposals, technical reports, client meetings, and team leadership.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets company and client requirements.
  • Ability to travel regionally and nationally (up to 10%) as needed based on project assignments.
  • Ability to mentor staff members in design and project management.
Advantageous Qualifications
  • Prior experience responding to proposal requests or facilitating proposal development efforts.
  • Prior experience contributing to business or market development plans.
  • Prior experience or aspirations to cultivate and enhance relations with stakeholders of current and prospective clients.
  • Working knowledge of FRA and/or AREMA design standards and requirements.
