ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Hunt Electric is seeking a Payroll Analyst to join our team of Payroll Specialists supporting both union and non-union employees. Our payroll team is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of wages, benefits, and deductions while maintaining compliance with union agreements, project-specific requirements, and all federal and state regulations.
In addition to payroll processing responsibilities, the Payroll Analyst will play a critical role in managing payroll-related general ledger (GL) account reconciliations, ensuring the accuracy of payroll accounting entries and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. The role requires collaboration with the Payroll and Accounting teams to research and resolve variances, prepare journal entries, and maintain strong internal controls over payroll financial reporting.
The Payroll Analyst will also lead payroll-related tax reporting and compliance activities, including researching state and local tax requirements for new job locations, managing benefit plan tax setups and overseeing tax code setups within our ERP system (Viewpoint Spectrum). The ideal candidate brings deep experience in payroll operations and accounting, critical thinking skills, and the ability to lead special projects.
- Review new job locations for payroll compliance.
- Research state and local tax requirements and establish corresponding tax codes in Viewpoint Spectrum ERP.
- Identify and apply prevailing wage, OCIP and CCIP requirements; utilize Spectrum, Qlik, and Global Search for project reviews.
- Research federal and state tax setup requirements for benefits plans.
- Review employee travel agreements regarding state/local taxes (multi-state), GSA rates, travel per diems, and other expense reimbursements.
- Conduct audits of union and non-union payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Manage ERP maintenance of tax, add-on, and deduction codes.
- Serve as a backup for office (non-union) payroll processing, union labor rate calculations, and payroll tax filings.
- File tax reports, 1095-Cs, 401(k) reports, fringe benefits, and earnings statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages payable, tax liabilities, benefits, and accruals.
- Handle unemployment determinations and electronically submit unemployment case information.
- Assist the Director of Risk Management with documentation for workers’ compensation claims.
- Lead and participate in special payroll-related projects, ensuring effective project completion and communication.
$75,000-$100,000 + discretionary bonus + employee ownership + benefits

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree in a related field or American Payroll Association certification (CPP or FPC) preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years payroll experience, with strong knowledge of federal and state payroll laws, multi-state tax complexities, and payroll reporting.
- Certified payroll experience in a union environment preferred.
- Strong auditing, accounting, and data analysis skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP systems (preferably Spectrum), Microsoft Excel, and payroll platforms.
