We are inviting professional and positive individuals to join the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office as a Background Investigator. Hiring range: $35.05 per hour. Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: $31.00 to $43.38 per hour. Advancement/professional development opportunities.

• Perform moderately complex investigative and administrative tasks to determine employment suitability for county employees and contractors.
• Conduct criminal background checks, driving record checks, investigations, and examinations of applicants.
• Conduct comprehensive face‑to‑face interviews and background investigations on applicants and contractors.
• Keep management informed on the status of the background check and the candidate’s eligibility.
• Serve as the point of contact for candidates to provide status updates, answer questions, address concerns, and advise on the outcome.
• Document all report information in a clear and concise manner.

• Minimum education:
  
  Associate’s degree and at least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job‑related experience. In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
• Previous experience in sworn law enforcement.
• Degree in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field (preferred).
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to interact with a variety of individuals and personalities.
• Strong communication and writing skills.

Standard office environment, travel to various county work sites and meetings as needed. Vision, hearing, and ability to perform repetitive tasks with frequent wrist and finger manipulation. Occasional lifting of 10–20 lbs. Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
