Medtronic is seeking an experienced Animal Research Technician III to support preclinical surgical procedures, anesthesia management, and laboratory operations within their Preclinical Research Laboratory. This onsite role in Coon Rapids, MN, requires hands-on participation in laboratory and surgical settings, including scheduled weekend and after-hours coverage. The technician will perform complex technical responsibilities, assist in training team members, and ensure compliance with animal welfare and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include anesthesia support, operating room circulation, radiographic imaging, animal care, and SOP development. A minimum of 3 years of relevant technical experience is required.

he Preclinical Research Laboratory (PRL) within Global Technology and Innovation (GTI) supports the development and evaluation of medical technologies through preclinical surgical research and laboratory operations. The team partners with research, veterinary, and operational stakeholders to execute studies while maintaining compliance with quality, regulatory, and animal welfare requirements.

This position is based onsite in Coon Rapids, Minnesota and requires hands-on participation in laboratory and surgical settings. The role includes scheduled weekend, holiday, and after-hours coverage as part of departmental operations. Travel is not anticipated.

The Animal Research Technician III serves as an advanced technical resource supporting preclinical surgical procedures, anesthesia management, laboratory operations, and study execution. This role performs complex technical responsibilities, assists in training team members, and contributes to operational excellence, study quality, and animal care within the Preclinical Research Laboratory.

Primary Responsibilities

• Support preclinical surgical procedures by performing anesthesia technician responsibilities independently.
• Serve as operating room circulator, including operating room preparation, sterile product handling, fluoroscopy operation, contrast injections, and imaging data management.
• Acquire, assess, and maintain radiographic images using computed radiography and fluoroscopy systems.
• Support animal studies through animal care, monitoring, post-operative care, dosing support, and collaboration with veterinary and research personnel.
• Maintain compliance with animal welfare, biosafety, biosecurity, quality, and controlled substance handling requirements.
• Train and support laboratory personnel on departmental procedures, equipment, and operational practices.
• Collaborate on the development, revision, and maintenance of standard operating procedures, work instructions, and controlled documentation.
• Participate in departmental operations, including scheduling support, after-hours responsibilities, and weekend and holiday coverage.
