About the Job:

Lakeside HR Group has been engaged by our client to recruit an HR Manager to join their team. Our client is a well-established mechanical services organization supporting commercial and industrial facilities across the Twin Cities and beyond. They operate in a fast-paced, operational environment and are known for combining the stability of a larger organization with the feel of a hands‑on, local team.

This is a highly‑present, hands‑on HR role for someone who enjoys owning the day‑to‑day of the full HR function, with the ability to balance execution with thoughtful problem‑solving, to deliver process improvement, consistency and serve as a trusted partner across the organization.

Success in this role requires sound judgment and the ability to manage competing priorities in an industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • HR Operations & Day‑to‑Day Management
  • Own core HR processes end‑to‑end, including onboarding, offboarding, employee lifecycle changes, benefits reporting, and some payroll processing.
  • Ensure HR policies, practices, and documentation are compliant, consistent, and practical.
  • Partner closely with shared services teams (such as benefits & accounting) to align on accurate execution and reporting.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees, responding to questions and concerns with clarity, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Navigate employee relations matters with discretion, confidence, and sound judgment, in partnership with supervisors and managers.
  • Understand the balance between operational realities of the business and the needs of the people within the organization.
  • Clearly communicate decisions and explain the “why” to build trust and understanding.

Process Improvement

  • Build, improve, and standardize HR progresses and programs such as performance management, training, learning, and leadership development.
  • Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for continuous improvement within the HR function.
  • Optimize HRIS (Paylocity) and related systems to better support the business and system administrators.
  • Support hiring efforts from intake through onboarding.
  • Ensure a consistent, professional and timely candidate experience.
  • Help leaders focus on long‑term fit and success, not just filling open roles.

Manager Support & Coaching

  • Partner with managers, especially those new in role, as a coach and thought partner on performance, conduct, and people decisions.
  • Guide managers through difficult conversations, documentation, and decision‑making.
  • Serve as a steady, solutions‑oriented HR presence for the organization

Reporting & Insights

  • Provide meaningful HR reporting and insights to support business decisions.
  • Use data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Apply internal and external benchmarks.

Required

Skills & Experience:

  • ~5 years of progressive HR experience, ideally as a Senior HR Generalist or HR Manager
  • Experience supporting both hourly and salaried employees in an industrial and skilled‑trades union environment strongly preferred.
  • Broad HR generalist background with comfort operating across all areas of the HR function, as a team of one.
  • Strong judgment, communication skills, and ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism.
  • Ability to work onsite.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal history background check.
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage.
  • Employer‑matched 401(k).
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Stable, long‑standing yet still growing organization.
