Role Overview :

The Donated Goods social enterprise provides a major source of sustainable revenue for EFMN, directly fueling our mission and programs. The Director of Donated Goods Operations drives the overall performance, strategy, and continuous improvement and is responsible for delivering strong financial results, ensuring efficient and reliable operations, and fostering an exceptional donor experience. The role also identifies and advances opportunities for business growth, operational innovation, and expansion – promoting long‑term success and maximum mission impact.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Business Operations - 50%

  • Oversees all operational functions of the Donated Goods enterprise, including personnel, truck leasing and management, scheduling, customer service, marketing, and vendor management.
  • Develops and maintains an efficient, scalable staffing and scheduling plan.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, coaches, and when necessary, terminates supervisory‑level staff and other personnel.
  • Optimizes the use of technology to improve workflow efficiency, reduce operating costs, enhance visibility of key metrics, and ensure accurate data tracking.
  • In partnership with executive leadership, researches, negotiates, and manages contracts for the sale of collected goods, truck leases, equipment, and other services. Builds and maintains positive relationships with all levels of buyers' operations.
  • Prepares and delivers reports on Donated Goods performance for Finance Committee meetings.
  • Leads staff in aligning personnel, operations, and planning toward achieving financial performance goals and strong mission impact.

Business Strategy and Development - 40%

  • Executes the business plan and establishes performance metrics to measure progress and drive accountability.
  • Works closely with executive leadership to ensure Donated Goods goals and operations align with broader EFMN strategic priorities.
  • Collaborates with Communications and Marketing to align solicitation strategies, strengthen messaging, and increase donation volume.
  • Identifies and evaluates new business opportunities; leads internal planning, assesses viability with executive leadership, and implements approved opportunities.
  • Ensures an exceptional donor experience and develops metrics and systems to monitor donor satisfaction and retention.
  • Oversees collection and analysis of relevant data; uses data to inform operational improvements, financial optimization, and strategic growth.
  • Maintains current knowledge of thrift industry trends, market conditions, and prospective buyers to ensure competitive positioning.

Budgeting and Analysis - 10%

  • Develops the annual Donated Goods budget and operational plan to meet organizational net revenue goals.
  • Monitors monthly and quarterly financial reports for accuracy, variance trends, and operational insights.
  • Prepares forecasts and proactively communicates expected variances to executive leadership.
  • Uses data‑driven analysis to make cost‑effective operational and strategic decisions.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, or 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Five years of management experience.
  • Critical thinker with demonstrated ability to analyze complex business situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of individuals of varying backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a budget and achieve business results.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel to manage and analyze data.
