Machine Operator
Location:
Monticello, MN
Schedule:
- 1st Shift: Monday - Thursday 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- 2nd Shift: Monday - Thursday 4:30 PM - 3:00 AM
- Operate CNC equipment and ensure proper use of machines, tooling and inspection equipment.
- Load parts into machine and verify settings by measuring positions, first-run, and sample parts.
- Maintain production rate in terms of cycle time, quantity and quality assigned to the job.
- Change cutting tools and adjust machine feeds and speeds as needed.
- Understand manufacturing and machining processes and suggest improvements.
- Use measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers and other inspection gauges.
- Verify fixture setup using all necessary inspection equipment under supervision.
- Produce high quality parts to specifications and assist with identification of root causes and corrective action for quality problems.
- Follow work orders and documentation, ensuring all production process documentation is completed accurately.
- Perform in-process inspection of machined parts and complete required paperwork such as the Inspection Process (IP) sheet.
- Document and communicate actions taken (e.g., changes, concerns) on machine operations across shifts.
- Maintain a balanced workload by prioritizing and balancing machine set-up, production and maintenance duties.
- Complete secondary operations such as deburring, assembling and washing parts during machine cycle time per the print and machining process.
- Keep work area and equipment clean, orderly and follow specified safety procedures at all times.
- Participate in required meetings and training.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Statistical Process Control (SPC), traceability and material reject review (MRR) procedures.
- Knowledge of 5S and lean concepts and help production move forward in achieving department goals.
- Knowledge of CNC equipment capabilities and daily maintenance of machines.
- Knowledge of setup, machine speeds and feeds for materials and tools.
- Understanding of basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience using hand tools and measuring equipment.
- Experience with machinist hand tools and measuring equipment.
- Experience using manual and CMM inspection equipment.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division with whole numbers, fractions and decimals).
- Ability to use a calculator.
- Daily usage of micrometers, rulers and other measuring tools.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Ability to read and apply technical data from product specifications.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability to changes in work requests or environment.
- Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships.
- Willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and be a self-starter.
- Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively to co‑workers and supervisory staff.
- Two-year machine technology (registered apprenticeship certificate) or at least two years of experience machining various parts in a close tolerance environment such as milling, turning and grinding (preferred).
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment, loud noise and chemicals.
- Hands, fingers, and arms frequently used to grasp, pinch, pull, feel or handle parts and tools.
- Required PPE worn at all times (industry standard).
- Full shift (6–8 hours) standing and walking throughout workday.
- Frequent lifting or moving of items up to 40 lbs.
- Frequent reach with hands and arms; frequent repetitive motion.
- Occasional exposure to chemicals.
Starting Rate: $19.00/hour
