Overview

Senior Scientist – Applications & Method Development — Entegris, Bloomington, MN. This role involves the development of new testing methodologies, execution of laboratory testing, and supporting instrument application development for our optical particle-sizing and chemical concentration instrumentation products.

Products include:
Accu Sizer® single particle optical sizing systems and Nicomp® Nano dynamic light scattering systems used across pharmaceuticals, chemicals, ink production, and contamination control;
Semi Chem Advanced Process Monitor for automated sampling, analysis, and quantitative chemical concentration monitoring for semiconductor applications. Ideal candidates will translate new applications into standardized laboratory methods, maintain a results-oriented approach, and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Laboratory Operations:
    Support day-to-day laboratory functions by performing sample preparation and analysis in accordance with established SOPs and safety protocols. Ensure tasks are completed efficiently and accurately to maintain high quality standards.
  • Instrumentation Management:
    Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical instruments essential to laboratory operations. Ensure equipment functions properly and is maintained per manufacturer guidelines and internal procedures.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    Analyze data, draw meaningful conclusions, and communicate results clearly. Prepare detailed internal and external reports with accuracy and clarity.
  • Applications Design and Testing:
    Assess feasibility of new customer applications by developing, validating, and designing experimental methods. Contribute to innovation and implementation of new analytical procedures tailored to customer needs.
  • Evaluation of New Technologies:
    Evaluate emerging particle and chemical analysis technologies. Develop and implement test methods to assess new technologies and compare results across instruments.
  • Reagent and Material Validation:
    Validate Certificates of Analysis for incoming reagents and materials. Ensure laboratory inputs meet specifications to maintain testing integrity.
  • Method Improvement:
    Drive continuous improvement of existing testing methods. Identify optimization opportunities and implement changes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and safety.
  • Professional Development:
    Engage in continuous training on analytical techniques and strive to develop subject-matter expertise in particle sizing and concentration analysis.
Qualifications and Preferred Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience, Master’s degree with at least 3 years, or PhD with relevant experience in analytical chemistry; equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience in analytical instrumentation method development and validation. Preferred: automated titration and optics-based instrumentation; experience with slurry chemical and particle analysis is advantageous.
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation performance issues. Familiarity with analytical instrumentation including Ion Chromatography (IC), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS); experience with Labware LIMS desirable.
  • Detail-oriented with strong technical communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize work. Willingness and ability to travel internationally.
  • Self-motivated, able to solve problems independently, and capable of working effectively both individually and as part of a team.
