Description:
We are inviting professional and positive individuals to join the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff in our Patrol Division. The mission is “To protect and serve the community in a manner that preserves the public trust.” This is a full‑time, non‑exempt, on‑site position.
Salary: $86,465 ($41.57 per hour). Lateral pay based on prior experience. Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 2105: $86,465 to $116,875 ($41.57 to $56.19 per hour). 24 days of paid flexible time off and up to 12.5 paid holidays. 13301 Hanson Blvd NW, Andover, MN 55304. Work schedules are 12‑hour shifts, with a 5‑day stretch off every other week.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Responds to calls for assistance by citizens in distress or other public safety agencies within Anoka County.
- Enforce all laws, including county/city ordinances, state and federal laws, traffic laws, and motor vehicle regulations.
- Conduct preliminary investigation of crimes and accidents and provide follow‑up investigative work as needed.
- Respond promptly to motor vehicle, home, firearm, and recreation accidents; and medical emergencies such as sudden illness and accidental deaths.
- Administer first aid and CPR until medical personnel arrive on the scene.
- Transport prisoners, psychiatric patients, and inebriated patients to and from jails, hospitals, detoxification centers, and other jurisdictions.
- Provide courtroom security and maintain discipline in courtrooms.
- Patrol streets, roads, highways, snowmobile trails, lakes, and rivers to ensure compliance with laws by observing suspicious cars, persons, or actions.
- Conduct sales of real estate and personal property in accordance with foreclosure and lien laws.
- Perform various administrative and specialty assignments as directed; prepare accurate and complete logs, records, and reports.
- Prepare court testimony and testify in court regarding investigation procedures, information, and evidence collected.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- Associate’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Licensed by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officers Standards and Training by date of hire/appointment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- No felony conviction.
- Ability to credibly testify in court.
- Pass a job‑related examination of physical strength or agility consistent with the duties of a peace officer.
- Undergo and pass a thorough physical and psychological examination and successfully complete a background investigation.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
- Knowledge of laws, judicial procedures, regulations, rules and guidelines related to crime and evidence.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Standard office environment, travel to various county work sites both indoor and outdoor, may include emergency or disaster response sites in uncontrolled environments depending on assignment. Work activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients depending on assignment. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents. Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization, memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills. Assignments require several hours of varied…
