Job Summary:
An Exhaust Technician, also known as an Exhaust System Specialist, is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining exhaust systems in vehicles. This role plays a vital part in ensuring vehicles are operating safely, efficiently, and within environmental regulations by inspecting, repairing, and replacing exhaust components as needed.

Inspection and Diagnosis
- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicle exhaust systems to identify issues, including leaks, corrosion, damage, and exhaust emissions problems.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to pinpoint exhaust system malfunctions.
- Interpret diagnostic results and discuss findings with customers.
Repairs and Maintenance
- Perform repairs on exhaust systems, including welding, patching, or replacing damaged components such as mufflers, catalytic converters, pipes, and hangers.
- Conduct exhaust system modifications or upgrades as per customer requests.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as tightening clamps and securing loose components.
Emissions Testing
- Conduct emissions testing to ensure vehicles meet environmental standards and regulations.
- Make necessary adjustments or repairs to reduce emissions to acceptable levels.
- Keep abreast of changing emission regulations and technology.
Customer Interaction
- Provide clear explanations of necessary repairs or replacements to customers.
- Offer accurate estimates for repair costs and timelines.
- Address customer concerns and answer questions regarding exhaust system issues.
Documentation and Record-Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including parts used, labor hours, and customer information.
- Complete service reports and invoices for customers.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines when working with exhaust systems and related equipment.
- Comply with environmental regulations regarding emissions control and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Ensure that the workplace is clean, organized, and safe.
Equipment and Tool Maintenance
- Maintain and calibrate tools and equipment used for exhaust system repairs.
- Report any equipment issues or needs for replacement.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive repair is preferred.
- Proven experience as an Exhaust Technician or Automotive Technician with expertise in exhaust system repair.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment for exhaust system diagnostics.
- Strong welding skills and experience in metal fabrication.
- Knowledge of emission control systems and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and customer service orientation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy exhaust system components.
- Valid driver s license and a clean driving record (if required).
Exhaust Technicians play a critical role in ensuring that vehicles are safe, environmentally compliant, and perform optimally. They must possess a strong understanding of exhaust systems, emissions regulations, and the ability to diagnose and repair issues efficiently while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction and safety.
