Position Summary
The Building Engineer is responsible for completing work orders, grounds maintenance, painting, caulking, HVAC, plumbing, drywall, electrical and other maintenance tasks on buildings as needed. The role includes performing general preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds, monitoring building operations and performance, and troubleshooting complex systems.
Essential Job Functions- Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds.
- Inspect building systems (fire alarms, HVAC, plumbing) to ensure equipment operates within design specifications and meets client environmental requirements.
- Conduct assigned repairs, emergency responses, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Maintain maintenance and repair records as required.
- Lead troubleshooting and repair of systems such as plumbing, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, and HVAC.
- Direct mechanics, technicians, and outside contractors on assigned projects when necessary.
- Respond quickly to emergency situations, coordinating additional assistance as needed.
- Manage an energy optimization program to operate systems efficiently and reduce operating costs.
- Maintain building lighting systems, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED with a minimum of two years of related experience, trade school training, or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years building maintenance experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of building system operations, maintenance, and repair.
- Appropriate licenses or permits for trades such as Journeyman or Master Electrician, City Licenses, refrigeration certificates, boiler or steam operator certifications, as required.
- Knowledgeable in energy management systems, techniques, and operations.
- Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and customer‑service orientation.
- Ability to operate and use necessary manual and power‑driven tools.
- Physical capability to stoop, stand, climb ladders, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- May require shift work, overtime, on‑call duties, and prolonged periods during emergency responses.
First Shift (United States of America). Houston, TX. This is an on‑site role; remote or hybrid options are not available.
