Location: Willmar, MN
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: Base Pay + Overtime After 40 Hours
Potential Total Compensation: $140,000+ annually based on overtime, bonuses, profit sharing, per diem, and benefits
We are seeking an experienced Lead Water Well & Pump Service Technician to join our team in Willmar, Minnesota. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and servicing residential and commercial water wells and pumping systems.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, physically fit, customer-focused, and capable of working independently in remote outdoor environments. You will also have opportunities to assist drilling crews on larger projects and provide guidance and training to apprentices.
This is a hands-on position that may require extended workdays, overnight travel, weekend service calls, and work in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and service residential and commercial water wells and pumping systems.
- Install new water pumping systems and safely wire electrical pumping systems.
- Size pumps for different applications and recommend appropriate pumping equipment based on customer needs.
- Operate pump hoist trucks with approximately 3- to 5-ton lifting capacity.
- Retrieve dropped pumps and perform pump-related recovery work.
- Install and read water flow meters.
- Perform basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and hydraulic troubleshooting.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on service trucks and equipment.
- Complete pre-trip inspections each morning and post-trip inspections at the end of each workday.
- Maintain accurate job worksheets, time cards, driving logs, daily inspection reports, and other required documentation.
- Keep service trucks clean, organized, properly stocked, and fueled.
- Set up, maintain, clean, and demobilize job sites while maintaining a professional environment for customers.
- Train and mentor apprentices on proper service, repair, installation, and safety procedures.
- Maintain responsibility for assigned vehicles, equipment, tools, paperwork, and safety requirements.
- Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, DOT regulations, and safe-driving procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service and ensure customers understand and are satisfied with completed work.
- Recommend and sell appropriate pumping equipment and services when needed.
- Participate in scheduled safety meetings.
- Respond to occasional night and weekend service calls.
- Typical workdays may extend beyond a standard 8-hour shift.
- 12-14 hour workdays may be required depending on project and service needs.
- Overnight and out-of-town work may be required.
- Weekend and night service calls are part of the position.
- Daily work is performed outdoors and may involve remote locations.
- The position involves physically demanding, dirty, and hands-on work.
- Employees must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience servicing, repairing, or installing water wells and pumping systems strongly preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with basic electrical and plumbing knowledge.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair pumps and water well systems independently.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to recommend and sell appropriate equipment based on customer needs.
- Ability to train and mentor less-experienced technicians or apprentices.
- Valid driver's license with a CDL Class A preferred or CDL Class B.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Current DOT-approved medical card.
- Ability and willingness to obtain air brake, tanker, and HAZMAT endorsements as required.
- Must be able to read, speak, and understand English.
- Must be willing to travel and work occasional overnight assignments.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
