Summary

As a Technical Architect for the Exam Developer product, you will own the overall system design and architecture for Pearson VUE’s SaaS tool for creating exams. You’ll be the visionary for future architecture, ensuring that current work aligns with the architecture direction, and spend most of your time on planning and design activities in collaboration with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Exam Developer is a web‑based exam development platform that lets customers write, review, and manage questions. The tool supports a full workflow around question writing, collaborative review, scoring, and test management. It is currently modernizing from a .NET Framework 4.x/ASP.NET Web Forms stack toward a .NET Core and Angular architecture, hosted in Microsoft Azure with containerized services and Microsoft SQL Server.

The majority of development and QA engineers are consultants in India; a small U.S. based employee team provides leadership and support. Clear written communication is essential.

Remote anywhere in the U.S.; must work during most Central U.S. business hours.

• Create technical plans for future development and operation of Exam Developer, anticipating upcoming needs.
• Lead solutioning and estimate work for upcoming features, turning high‑level goals into actionable plans.
• Review external technical designs for compatibility with current and future architecture.
• Partner with business stakeholders to incorporate customer vision into technical direction.
• Act as a trusted driving force for achieving business goals.
• Oversee operational costs, ensuring optimal Azure resource usage.
• Set technical standards with senior engineers.
• Socialize and explain decisions to architects, managers, and business analysts across the organization.
• Build consensus for your technical vision and consider alternative viewpoints.
• Collaborate across roles and boundaries.
• Respond to technical concerns and give clear explanations.
• Communicate at various technical levels, from executives to junior developers.
• Participate in development and QA work to maintain connection to team processes.
• Coach other team members to grow and excel.
• React to urgent production issues as part of rotating on‑call engineers.

• 7+ years of software development experience.
• 2+ years of software architecture experience.
• 2+ years with Angular or similar front‑end frameworks.
• 2+ years with C# or similar back‑end language.
• Experience supervising technical staff.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent discipline.

• Ability to produce technical designs that meet business needs.
• Experience with cloud provider capabilities.
• Knowledge of relational databases.
• Familiarity with Dev Ops workflows for cloud‑based development and deployment.
• Experience in an Agile software development environment.
• Demonstrated technical leadership.
• Clear communication skills for diverse audiences.
• History of continuous improvement.
