Position Overview
Position: Nonclinical Lab Research Assistant
Duration: 12-month contract - possibility for extensions
Schedule: Monday-Friday (8-9am - 5pm)

Our client is seeking a Nonclinical Biomedical Engineering Laboratory to be a hands-on Research Assistant to support preclinical medical device evaluation.
This role sits within the Preclinical Research team and focuses on designing, building, and running advanced laboratory systems used to test medical devices before clinical trials. The position works at the intersection of engineering and biological sciences and is highly lab-based.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys prototyping, working with electromechanical systems, and supporting biomedical research in a collaborative R&D environment.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities- Work hands-on in the laboratory supporting device research and testing
- Help bridge the gap between engineering teams and biological research teams
- Design and build electromechanical testing systems used for device evaluation
- Support the design, build, and maintenance of bioreactor systems for tissue and organ testing
- Assist with rapid prototyping of custom lab parts using CAD and 3D printing
- Support laboratory experiments using ex-vivo tissue or organ models
- Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data
- Prepare technical reports and share findings with cross-functional teams
- Ensure laboratory safety and compliance with research standards
- Design, build, and maintain advanced bioreactor systems for tissue and organ testing
- Conduct and support experiments aligned with ongoing research initiatives
- Help develop automated feedback control systems for physiological testing environments
- Design and optimize electromechanical systems for device testing
- Rapidly prototype custom parts and fixtures using CAD and additive manufacturing
- Support lab system architecture and continuous improvement efforts
- Collect and analyze experimental data using scientific and statistical methods
- Prepare detailed technical documentation and presentations
- Integrate engineering systems with biological workflows
- Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and research teams
- Maintain lab safety and compliance standards
- Master’s or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related field
- Strong experience with electromechanical systems (mechatronics, robotics, or control systems)
- Experience with CAD, 3D modeling, and additive manufacturing
- Understanding of anatomy, physiology, or biological systems
- Experience supporting non-animal testing models (ex-vivo or bioreactor systems preferred)
- Strong data analysis and technical writing skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with medical device design controls
- Experience working in regulated R&D environments
- Experience with tissue engineering or cell culture systems
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills
