Civil Engineer Co-Op

Our Civil Engineering team is excited to add a student for the Fall semester. You will work alongside talented and knowledgeable civil engineers who are registered in several states to help kickstart your career in a dynamic and people‑centered AE consulting firm. If you enjoy the design aspect of Civil Engineering for industrial spaces, or have an interest in learning about it, this role is a great fit for you.
Responsibilities- Assist in gathering field data and capital cost estimating when needed
- With supervision, use design criteria documents to meet project objectives
- Ensure quality and technical accuracy of assigned deliverables
- Follow the BSI Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards
- With supervision, perform necessary calculations and design effort to prepare deliverables
- Coordinate work with civil associates on a project
- Meet individual schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
- Design earthwork, pavement, underground utilities, storm water management, and erosion control methodologies
- With supervision, select appropriate construction materials
- With supervision, participate in construction support, startup and commissioning efforts
- Interface with other design discipline counterparts and project management as needed
- Occasionally interface with local authority having jurisdiction for permitting coordination
- Occasionally interface with outside consultants and contractors (geotechnical engineers, surveyors, construction contractors)
- Learn the role of other disciplines and overall project requirements during the project lifecycle
- With supervision, may participate in multi‑discipline squad checks of deliverables before issuance
- Identify and communicate scope changes for discipline
- Continually communicate forecasted staffing requirements for assigned projects
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Completed at least 4 semesters of related engineering courses
- Prior co‑op experience preferred
- Developing written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Strong ability to analyze and critically assess problems
- Understanding civil engineering concepts and principles and gaining familiarity with all necessary codes
- Gaining knowledge of construction materials, construction methods and industry standards
- Gaining civil design experience including storm water analysis, underground utility and 3‑D modeling
