Design Engineer
Location: Cincinnati OH or Raritan NJ
PurposeAs a Design Engineer, you will work directly with a team of experienced engineers to design and verify next generation drug delivery devices used within the medical device space. You will be responsible for the design and development, and execution of mechanical designs, with a special focus on long lumen single use instrument design.
You will be responsible for- Perform testing, experimentation, and verification to support product design.
- Contribute to design solution activity through utilization of previously learned skills with CAD tools, simulation tools, fundamental engineering principles, and experienced mentorship from seasoned Team Engineers.
- Assist in developing laboratory testing, interpreting data results, and recommending next steps.
- Checks and validates dimensions of parts in the relation of one part to another, and the relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
- Presents finished designs and works with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Designs major components or major portions of instrument systems to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
- Uses in-depth knowledge of various manufacturing methods, mechanisms, drafting practices, and mathematics to design subsystems and components.
- In depth understanding and experience using Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly methodologies to design or modify subsystems and components.
- Understands standard assembly processes and is capable of collaborating with process development engineers to verify and validate manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Application of GD&T and statistical analysis
- Supports engineering analysis like finite element analysis, and other engineering calculation tools to prove sizing, materials, and specifications prior to machine fabrication.
- Conceptualizes ideas and understands inadequacies of designs.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills. Comes up with possible solutions to design problems.
- Ability to perform tolerance analysis using various techniques to ensure design robustness.
- Deliver projects concerned with critical healthcare challenges, involving exploration of subject area, generation of novel concepts, and diligence on external technologies, including execution of in vitro or in vivo experiments as needed;
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering required;
Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred. - At least 3-5 years of demonstrated Engineering experience in a highly regulated industry (Aerospace, Automotive, etc) required;
Medical Device Engineering experience strongly preferred. - Relevant experience working with multi-disciplinary product development teams and external partners required.
- Ability to apply theoretical technical principles to product design.
- Demonstrated understanding of various manufacturing processes, mechanisms, materials, proper tolerancing, drafting standards, and GD&T (intermediate level).
- Ability to effectively communicate critical design/project information to internal and external customers.
- Ability to work and manage priorities on multiple tasks.
- Demonstrated project execution from start to bringing to market.
- Experience with the any of following software applications is highly desired:
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Tools: ADAPTIV, PTC Windchill, Siemens Teamcenter 10 or newer, or similar.
- CAD Tools:
Solid Works, Siemens NX 10 or newer, or similar. - Microsoft Office Tools:
Excel, Word, etc.
- Highly effective oral and written communication skills (with strong interpersonal and critical-thinking skills), including the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
- Excellent communication and interaction skills, especially when describing technical concepts to surgeons, sales personnel, and senior management.
- Highly recognized as experienced and professional engineer by peers.
- Well organized, self-motivated, energetic, creative, resourceful, insightful, personable, and articulate.
- Catheter or long lumen instrument experience.
- Relevant experience with medical metal coatings and plastic injection molding.
- Ability to work in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820.
