Position Overview
The City of Blue Ash is accepting applications for the position of Police Patrol Officer. Applicants must be certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council as an Ohio Peace Officer and be currently employed full-time as an Ohio Peace Officer. Applications must be submitted through the City’s online system by or before Friday, March 13, 2026, 11:59pm.
Application ProcessApplicants will be required to complete a physical abilities test. This test is made up of duty‑specific tasks, including sprinting, going under and over obstacles, identifying suspects, and dragging a dummy to simulate an officer rescue. The test is timed and must be completed in under 58 seconds to pass. Applicants that pass the physical abilities test will participate in an oral examination immediately following the test.
Applicants who do not pass the physical abilities test or fail to show up for the test will be disqualified from the hiring process.
The oral test will be scored and will create an eligibility list. If needed, a follow‑up interview may be required.
Applicants who are selected will have prior full‑time service taken into consideration when determining starting pay and leave benefits.
Work Conditions & BenefitsThe Blue Ash Police Department runs 12‑hour shifts; has a Beacon Orthopedics fitness trainer and injury clinicians on staff; three days of mental health leave; and many other benefits and training opportunities.
Qualifications- Current OPOTA certification and full‑time service as a peace officer
- Minimum age of 21 years at the time of appointment
- U.S. citizenship
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma or G.E.D.; prefer associate’s degree or higher
- No felony convictions
- Good social and general intelligence; ability to deal firmly and courteously with the public; good knowledge of first-aid methods; good judgment; some skill in the use of firearms; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to drive an automobile under adverse conditions; good powers of agility; excellent physical condition
