Overview
Irrigation Technician:
This position is responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining irrigation equipment including sprinklers, pumps, water lines, and suction valves. Irrigation technicians may also be required to operate heavy machinery for trenching and install wiring systems for water timers.
- Designs, installs, troubleshoots, and repairs irrigation controllers, including electrical aspects.
- Assists field personnel with diagnosing and troubleshooting irrigation-related problems.
- Uses a proactive approach to irrigation system management.
- Performs site assessments, inspects equipment, inventories supplies, and maintains adequate on-hand materials.
- Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots various sizes and types of control valves.
- Repairs irrigation mainlines from 1 in to 12 in, using industry-standard components and techniques.
- Repairs backflow prevention devices.
- Trains personnel as needed.
- Conforms to OSHA regulations.
- Maintains detailed records of maintenance activities and completed work orders.
- Communicates issues with supervisors within the organization.
- Prepares necessary documents and reports.
- Assists in creating a culture of safety and environmental protection by performing work safely in accordance with company safety procedures.
- Operates equipment safely and reports unsafe conditions or practices to the supervisor.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Attends meetings as needed.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to operate or use trenching and boring equipment and a shovel to prepare trenches.
- Knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, materials, and practices used in the irrigation trade.
- Knowledge of PVC installation and techniques.
- Able to provide detailed irrigation site assessments.
- Able to perform basic math calculations.
- Able to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
- Work in a safe, skilled, and timely manner.
- Understand and use proper safety procedures.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and clients.
