Job Summary:
The middle school math teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and differentiated instruction that is aligned to the curriculum and learning standards. The teacher establishes a culture for learning within the classroom, ensuring that students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. The teacher maintains regular communication with parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding the instructional program and student progress.
Primary Responsibilities:- Develop lesson plans that demonstrate knowledge of important concepts and skills in mathematics, aligned to district curriculum.
- Incorporate best practice instructional strategies for middle school mathematics.
- Set rigorous learning outcomes aligned to district curriculum.
- Use a variety of instructional resources and materials to plan engaging, rigorous, and differentiated activities that advance student learning.
- Design student assessments aligned with learning outcomes, using formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adapt instruction for whole class, individuals, or small groups.
- Promote positive and supportive relationships with students.
- Maximize instructional time by establishing efficient classroom routines and procedures, guiding instructional groups, and managing classroom transitions.
- Manage classroom behavior by communicating clear expectations for conduct, proactively monitoring behavior, and responding to misbehavior appropriately.
- Enhance learning environment by arranging classroom to support instruction, utilizing technology and resources to engage students.
- Use questioning and discussion strategies to engage students in critical thinking, reflection, and argumentation, and to assess understanding.
- Engage students in intellectually challenging activities that foster reflection on learning.
- Reflect on instructional practices to improve teaching and student learning.
- Communicate frequently with families about instruction, academic and social-emotional progress, and family participation in student learning.
- Current and valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a middle school mathematics endorsement.
- Foundational knowledge of Google Classroom applications and ability to incorporate technology to enhance instruction.
- Flexible, creative, and student‑centered teaching approach.
- Ability to assess student learning and modify instruction as needed.
- Proficiency in analyzing data to inform instructional decisions.
- Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.
- Strong knowledge of state learning standards and instructional best practices in mathematics.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population and maintain open and regular communication with parents and guardians.
- Starting salary of $54,344. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
- Qualified candidates may be granted up to twenty years of verified full‑time teaching experience for credit on the salary schedule.
