Building Inspector - City of Blue Springs job at City of Blue Springs. Blue Springs, MO.
JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: Conducts building inspections to ensure compliance with municipal building codes and related regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:QUALIFICATIONS:
1.
Education and Special License(s)/Certifications - High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in a related field preferred. Certified by a major model code association, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Valid state driver's license, or ability to obtain by employment date, required.
2.
Experience – One to three years of experience in building construction at the skilled or foreman level.
3.
Skills - Skill in operating applicable tools and equipment. Knowledge of major types of building construction materials and methods, and stages of construction. Knowledge of municipal building codes and related ordinances.
4.
Mental Requirements - Ability to communicate effectively and interface with the general public. Ability to detect violations including poor workmanship, inferior materials, and hazard of fire and collapse. Ability to follow through with appropriate action to correct the situation. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints.
5.
Physical Requirements - Must be able to sit for prolonged periods; must be able to listen to normal conversation; must be able to walk occasionally, and use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; must be able to reach with hands and arms; must be able to have vision sufficient to see close up and have the ability to adjust focus;
and, must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds and transport it 15 feet.
