Project Engineer, Construction Manager​/ Foreman

Contegra Construction is hiring a motivated Construction Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of commercial, industrial, manufacturing, distribution, and design‑build construction projects.

This role is ideal for an organized construction professional who wants to build a long‑term career in project management. You'll work alongside experienced Project Managers and Superintendents, helping coordinate every phase of construction while gaining hands‑on experience managing budgets, schedules, documentation, subcontractors, and client communications.

• Supporting Project Managers from preconstruction through project closeout.
• Managing Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawings, and project documentation.
• Assisting with project scheduling, procurement, material tracking, and project coordination.
• Coordinating subcontractor communications and supporting contract administration.
• Reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Tracking project budgets, change orders, pay applications, and cost reporting.
• Participating in project meetings with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Assisting with project planning, problem‑solving, and issue resolution throughout construction.
• Coordinating project closeout activities, punch lists, warranties, and turnover documentation.
• Visiting active construction sites to support field operations and collaborate with Superintendents.
• Maintaining accurate project documentation using construction management software.
• Fostering a collaborative team environment focused on safety, quality, and project success.
• Promoting company values, professionalism, and accountability throughout every project.

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Internship experience or 1–3 years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, estimating, or a related role preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or other construction management software is a plus.
• A positive attitude and desire to build a long‑term career in commercial construction.

• Combination of office‑based project coordination and regular visits to active construction sites.
• Daily collaboration with Project Managers, Superintendents, owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
• Exposure to every phase of commercial construction, from preconstruction through closeout.

This position is based out of our Edwardsville, IL or St. Charles, MO office with regular travel to active construction projects throughout the region.
