Position SummaryThe In‑School Suspension Aide provides support to the educational process by overseeing students assigned to In‑School Suspension (ISS), documenting student behavior, assisting with supervision, care, and instruction of students in the regular classrooms, implementing instructional plans, monitoring behavior during non‑classroom time, and providing information to appropriate school personnel.
Essential Functions- Aids the immediate administration of first aid and health assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., cuts, bruises).
- Attends to and guides individual activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher (e.g., math, science, reading, behavioral skills, writing, verbal skills).
- Communicates with various personnel (e.g., supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, therapist, and parents) to evaluate progress and implement educational objectives.
- Compiles and maintains various ISS information (e.g., list of student schedules, assignment sheets, bathroom logs, behavior rules) for reporting and documentation.
- Implements behavioral plans for students with behavior problems or special conditions under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
- Maintains instructional materials, manuals, and electronic files (e.g., preparing supplies, copying, setting up classroom, collecting papers, alphabetizing forms).
- Monitors students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments, accommodations, or modifications.
- Oversees classroom management duties (e.g., tests, homework, make‑up work, data collection, classroom material preparation).
- Participates in training, meetings, and in‑service presentations (e.g., first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, classroom management).
- Performs general record‑keeping and clerical functions (e.g., attendance logs, activity reports).
- Provides verbal and/or written feedback of observations to inform teachers and/or parents of student progress.
- Reports incidents relating to specific students (e.g., health concerns, accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, rule violations).
- Responds to emergency situations (e.g., injured student, fights) to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel in implementing curriculum and teaching methodologies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Skills required include adherence to safety practices, operation of standard office equipment, preparation and maintenance of accurate records, and conflict management with students. Knowledge required includes algebra and/or geometry, reading of manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, and understanding complex written and oral instructions. Ability required includes scheduling activities, gathering and collating data, using basic job‑related equipment, adapting to changing work priorities, communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, working as part of a team, handling constant interruptions, working without supervision, patience, and building effective relationships.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under direct supervision with standardized procedures, leading and coordinating others, operating within a defined budget, and utilizing resources from other work units.

Experience
Job‑related experience is required.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Equivalency
Combinations of education, training, and experience that demonstrate ability to perform duties, such as 60 credit hours of college, previous ISS classroom experience, or post‑high‑school training.
