The Trades Pathways Instructor is a part-time instructional position for an experienced industry professional in nursing, medical assisting, pharmacy, physical therapy, dental care, and emergency medical services (EMS). The role is responsible for providing high school students with engaging, real‑world learning experiences that introduce the history, roles, responsibilities, and career pathways within the health profession. The instructor delivers a combination of classroom‑based instruction, hands‑on activities, simulations, and project‑based learning designed to connect theory with practical application.

• Part‑time, non‑benefits‑eligible position.
• Hourly rate determined by the certified teaching salary schedule.

• Provide direct classroom instruction aligned to course goals, using engaging strategies appropriate for high school learners.
• Design and deliver hands‑on skill‑building activities (demonstrations, stations, lab‑style practice) that reinforce core health‑care professional concepts.
• Facilitate project‑based learning experiences where students research, collaborate, produce artifacts, and present findings.
• Teach the history, roles, responsibilities, and career pathways within nursing, medical assisting, pharmacy, physical therapy, dental care, and emergency medical services (EMS).
• Differentiate instruction to meet varied student needs, readiness levels, and learning styles.
• Recruit, schedule, and host guest speakers (nurses, pharmacy technicians, physical therapists, dental hygienists, EMTs, paramedics, LPNs, etc.).
• Establish clear learning targets and evaluate student learning using formative and summative assessments.
• Provide timely feedback, coaching, and re‑teaching to support mastery of course outcomes.
• Assess student performance in both knowledge‑based (tests, reflections) and performance‑based (skills checks, scenario completion) formats.
• Build relationships with community partners to support mentoring, demonstrations, ride‑alongs/visits (if allowed), and career pathway awareness.
• Establish and maintain a positive, structured environment that supports respectful dialogue and teamwork.
• Model and reinforce professional expectations aligned to public safety culture (ethics, confidentiality boundaries, chain‑of‑command concepts, integrity).
• Support student growth through coaching, encouragement, and constructive feedback; refer concerns to appropriate school staff when needed.
• Maintain inventory and organization of supplies, training aids, and simulation materials.
• Request needed materials within budget guidelines and keep equipment in safe working condition.
• Complete required documentation for activities (permission forms, rosters, incident documentation when applicable).
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with school/district expectations.
• Maintain appropriate credentials/experience in the relevant public safety discipline (as required by the district/program).
• Stay current on evolving public safety practices and incorporate relevant updates into instruction.
• Represent the program positively with students, families, staff, and community partners.
• Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Preferred to be Certified as a Career Education Teacher in Missouri, or willingness to pursue certification while employed (CTAC).
