Product Development Electrical Engineering Intern

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Product Development Electrical Engineering Intern position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Job Summary

Assists in providing system and components design, investigation, experimentation, analysis, documentation and reporting. Work may result in new or improved systems, products, devices, components, and processes. Assists in performing aspects of engineering projects from planning through implementation. Works with assistance from more experienced co-workers. The primary focus of this position is learning the responsibilities of an Electrical Engineer Professional.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assists and/or learns about test equipment designs and how to write test procedures to appropriately verify that all production electronic assemblies meet Fike specifications.
  • Sets up prototype equipment and assists in the execution of testing Fike equipment to make sure it complies with UL and FM Standards.
  • Assists and/or learns about computer-based models to mathematically simulate conditions with hardware components and statistical situations in the development of new products, design modifications and product components.
  • With assistance from other electrical engineering personnel, analyzes research data and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal for manufacturability.
  • Confers with research engineers, sales, quality and manufacturing to clarify problems, analyze design problems and may recommend solutions and procedures.
  • Assists with preparation of product or system layout including detailed drawings and schematics.
  • Assists with maintaining and modifying current products to meet customer needs.
  • May assist with coordination of completion of all documentation required to produce new products including creation of assembly drawings, creation of bills of materials and any other documentation required.
  • May evaluate engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses.
  • Confers with research and other engineering, quality, manufacturing and sales personnel and may prepare design modifications as required.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering design tasks.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required.

    Job Qualifications

    REQUIRED: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering in-progress with minimum of 1 year completed toward degree.
