Challenged Athletes of West Virginia (CAWV), a non-profit 501(c)3, has been providing adaptive sports opportunities to children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities since 1996. Our mission is to enrich the quality of life for individuals with disabilities through outdoor sports and recreation. From humble beginnings, we have grown to become a leader in the Mid-Atlantic Region. CAWV primarily provides equipment and instruction for adaptive alpine skiing and snowboarding as well as, education and training opportunities for professional and volunteer staff.

We also provide equipment and support for hand cycling, adaptive bicycling, whitewater rafting, camping and other outdoor opportunities.

Member Duties :
  • Promote and engage both adult and youth volunteerism through community outreach, social media and web, school visits, events, etc.
  • Create programs to encourage and enrich volunteers experience with CAWV
  • Coordinate volunteer information sessions and trainings
  • Help engage those volunteers by getting them involved in informational sessions, trainings and experiences
  • Promote CAWV services to the community and beyond through social media, web, in person events and speaking opportunities
  • Help to plan our annual veterans family Winter Snow sports Camp and Summer Sports Camp
  • Support the camp through hospitality and mentorship for the veterans, family, etc.
  • Be a supportive mentor to the participant athletes we serve on a daily basis
  • Be involved in the development of our newest program offering, mountain biking
  • Help to promote the program to the community and beyond
  • Help coordinate and promote any other special activities/events i.e.
