The Assistant Designer / Product Development Associate supports the Lead Designer throughout the design and development process, helping bring seasonal collections from concept to production. This role is highly collaborative and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for women’s fashion. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys balancing both creative and technical responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Designer in executing seasonal collections and design concepts.
- Assist with creating technical flats, CADs, colorways, and presentation materials.
- Prepare and maintain accurate tech packs for overseas manufacturers.
- Update and organize product development documents, line sheets, and design files.
- Track samples throughout the development process and maintain sample organization.
- Review samples for fit, construction, quality, and design accuracy, documenting comments for vendors.
- Communicate daily with overseas factories regarding revisions, approvals, and production timelines.
- Source fabrics, trims, colors, and garment components as directed by the Lead Designer.
- Maintain the product development calendar and help ensure deadlines are met.
- Organize and maintain fabric, trim, and color libraries.
- Assist with fittings by taking notes, measuring garments, and updating revisions.
- Support cross-functional communication between Design, Production, and Merchandising teams.
- Assist with research on fashion trends, silhouettes, fabrics, colors, and market inspiration.
- Perform additional design and product development tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in fashion design or product development (internships considered).
- Proficiency in Adobe, Pro-create, Canva and Google Workspace.
- Experience creating technical flats and tech packs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, and fit preferred.
- Experience working with overseas manufacturers is a plus.
