Responsibilities
  • Manage projects through the full lifecycle, from initial estimating to on-site execution.
  • Oversee heavy civil contracts ranging from $250K-$4M with typical durations of 3–4 months.
  • Execute work in deep foundations, rail (Union Pacific), bridges, culverts, and industrial sectors.
  • Conduct frequent day-trip travel to remote project locations for site assessments and oversight.
  • Background in deep foundations, heavy highway, or industrial cost engineering.
  • Review proposal specs, attend pre-bid meetings, and define the comprehensive scope of work.
  • Calculate quantity take-offs, material pricing, labor man-hours, and equipment costs.
  • Create and organize all necessary documentation for competitive bid packages.
  • Maintain accurate databases of supplier pricing, sales brochures, and market rates.
  • Manage public relations, claims, subcontractor back-charges, and force account work.
  • Ensure contractor performance ratings remain above 90% through rigorous oversight.
  • Recommend design solutions based on cost-efficiency, quality, and material availability.
  • Process all startup documentation and compliance requirements with the project checklist.
  • Direct and synchronize all subcontractor activities and schedules.
  • Timely management of RFIs, submittals, transmittals, change order logs, and serial letters.
  • Record and monitor project expenses weekly using Heavy Job and Viewpoint software.
Required Experience
  • 5-7 years
  • Willing to travel.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Experience in heavy civil, deep foundations, or light rail.
  • Dual expertise in both project engineering and estimating.
  • Deep understanding of field concepts for highway, piling, culvert, or rail installations.
  • Experience communicating with customers, regulatory agencies, and the business community.
  • Ability to present complex project information to management and public boards.
  • Proficiency in applying geometric formulas for accurate take-offs.
  • Strong skills in data collection, fact-finding, and problem-solving.
  • Understanding of professional estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing.
  • Fluency in Estimating, Scheduling, and Project Management software.
  • Legal work authorization in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this role.
