Human Intelligence Collector

Overview

Intelligence is crucial to the security of our nation. By gathering information about an adversary’s intentions, strengths, vulnerabilities, and capabilities, the military can plan, prepare, and defend against potential attacks. As a Human Intelligence Collector in the Army National Guard, you will earn a security clearance and use strategic, cognitive, and language skills to obtain Intel from both friendly and hostile sources.

Your duties may include conducting intelligence gathering missions involving human sources; interrogating and debriefing, as defined by regulation, as well as other tactical and strategic interrogation-related duties; developing intelligence gathering and collection missions as well as interrogation plans; advising military organizations based on intelligence gathering; and coordinating with federal agencies.

Through your training, you will develop the skills and experience to pursue a civilian career in research or business planning, or work for government agencies. A 10‑week Basic Training and 15 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) will teach you core soldiering skills, while 6 to 18 months of language training will provide foreign language proficiency. Completion of initial entry training can also lead to additional college credit.

Pay and language proficiency:
Most non-prior service candidates will initially earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change. As a 35M, you will earn additional pay each month for maintaining your language proficiency, from $100 to $500 per month for your primary language depending on your level of proficiency, and up to $1,000 total if you maintain proficiency in additional languages.
