CNC Programmer Job Description
This hands‑on CNC Programming role focuses on developing and optimizing programs for lathes and mills while directly supporting machining operations on the shop floor. You will own program development, improve machining processes, and solve real‑time production challenges in close collaboration with production, quality, and engineering teams. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being both highly technical and practical, with the opportunity to influence tooling decisions, process improvements, and overall manufacturing performance.
Responsibilities- Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs for turning, milling, and other machining operations using CAM software, with a preference for SolidCAM.
- Support CNC machine setup and prove‑out activities to ensure programs run safely, reliably, and efficiently in production.
- Create and maintain setup sheets, tooling sheets, and other machining documentation to support consistent and repeatable operations.
- Troubleshoot CNC machining and programming issues related to tooling, machine performance, cycle time, and part quality.
- Modify feeds, speeds, tool paths, and machining parameters to improve efficiency, extend tooling life, and enhance process consistency.
- Associate degree or equivalent technical certification in a relevant field.
- 3+ years of CNC programming and machining experience.
- Hands‑on experience with CNC lathes and mills.
- Experience working with metal machining applications.
- Proficiency in CAM software such as Mastercam, SolidCAM, or similar tools.
- Experience with CAD software such as Solid Works or similar platforms.
- Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
This role follows a typical schedule of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is based in a manufacturing facility with approximately 100 employees. You will work closely with quality, safety, and other engineering departments, spending a significant portion of time on the shop floor and regularly around CNC machinery.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bluffton, IN.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.85 - $33.65/hr.
