Under minimal guidance, the Food Safety Compliance Specialist’s primary role is to coordinate efforts to achieve and maintain Global Food Safety Initiative certification and ensure compliance with all company and regulatory policies relating to product safety and quality.
Responsibilities- Food Safety/Quality Program Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety and food quality programs, facilitate required employee training, complete internal assessments, develop corrective/preventive actions, lead third‑party audits, and validate system requirements.
- PEP / GFSI Program Compliance
- Lead the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the plant’s food safety/food quality program to assure compliance with the Hershey Company’s Product Excellence Program (PEP) and GFSI standards.
- Manufacturing Support
- Serve as a technical resource for Manufacturing and Engineering, providing leadership and guidance on weight control, packaging, incident investigation, troubleshooting, and related matters.
- Provide support for employee training and product/process audits.
- Offer QA support to various business units across the plant.
- Training / Communication
- Communicate essential food safety/quality information to all employees, ensuring program ownership by management and line operatives.
Skills and Qualifications
- Effective communication of technical and non‑technical information across all organizational levels.
- Strong working knowledge of QA principles and federal/state food industry regulations.
- Understanding of sanitation and pest control practices.
- Strong knowledge of Hershey Company’s Product Excellence Program (PEP) and HACCP.
- Strong grasp of GFSI standards.
- Proficient computer and document management skills.
- Excellent documentation skills and attention to detail.
- Collaboration skills with all levels within and outside the plant to deliver timely results.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships fostering innovation and cooperation.
- Strong auditing and assessment skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing operations.
- Leadership skills to influence management and guide employee teams without direct reports.
- Effective interaction with third‑party and internal auditors.
- Primary work on 1st shift with required flexibility to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
- B.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field.
- Masters in Food Science, Food Safety, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of related experience.
- Safe Quality Food (SQF) Practitioner Certification desirable.
- HACCP Certification desirable.
- Six Sigma certification desirable.
