Sumter County is Currently Seeking a Clerk II for Family Court
Compensation:
Starting Salary $25,000 annually.
The Clerk II provides clerical and customer service support to help ensure efficient daily operations within Sumter County Family Court. This position assists clients and court personnel, responds to inquiries, maintains case information, processes correspondence and mail, and performs general administrative duties. The Clerk II interacts regularly with clients, judges, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, court staff, and the general public.
- Answers telephone calls, directs callers to appropriate staff, takes messages as needed, and greets office visitors.
- Provides assistance to clients, judges, law enforcement personnel, attorneys, and others regarding Family Court procedures and services.
- Responds to client inquiries and questions regarding accounts and refers individuals to the appropriate clerk or staff member when necessary.
- Processes and distributes daily mail.
- Refers clients with delinquent accounts to the appropriate staff member.
- Performs computer data entry to record, update, and retrieve case information and prepares reports and correspondence.
- Operates standard office equipment, including computers, printers, telephones, and related equipment.
- Communicates and works effectively with the Office Manager, Director of Court Services, coworkers, clients, attorneys, court personnel, and the general public.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED supplemented by one to two years of general clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of general clerical principles, modern office practices, and standard office equipment.
- Ability to learn and apply Family Court policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and terminology relevant to assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, coworkers, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, court officials, and the general public.
- Ability to respond appropriately to individuals who may be emotional or involved in difficult situations.
- Ability to accurately enter, maintain, retrieve, and interpret case and administrative information.
- Ability to prepare records, reports, and correspondence using proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting.
- Ability to use computers and standard office equipment effectively.
- Ability to organize and prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, exercise sound judgment, and work with limited supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships while providing courteous and professional customer service.
This position is primarily sedentary and requires the ability to sit for extended periods, with occasional standing and walking. The employee must be able to operate computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment and perform repetitive hand and eye movements associated with office work.
The position requires the ability to occasionally exert up to five pounds of force and lift and/or carry items weighing approximately five to ten pounds. The employee must also possess the ability to communicate verbally and hear sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position.
Additional Requirements- Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
