Job Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety professional supports the University's environmental compliance and occupational safety programs across the Columbia and regional campuses. This position manages environmental permitting and compliance activities, conducts environmental and workplace safety inspections, and assists departments in identifying and correcting compliance deficiencies. The position also supports emergency response activities, provides training and technical guidance, and prepares regulatory documentation and reports to help ensure compliance with University, state, and federal requirements.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental health and safety principles, applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and University policies and procedures, including requirements related to occupational health, fire and life safety, hazardous materials, and emergency preparedness in a higher education environment.
- Skilled in planning, organizing, coordinating, and administering environmental health and safety programs while managing multiple priorities and meeting established deadlines.
- Experience conducting inspections, evaluating compliance, investigating incidents, identifying hazards, and recommending practical corrective actions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including providing guidance, training, and technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, contractors, and regulatory agencies while maintaining effective working relationships across the University community.
- Proficient in analyzing information, preparing reports, maintaining regulatory documentation, and utilizing computer applications and database systems.
- Demonstrated sound professional judgment, complex problem-solving skills, and a commitment to continuous process improvement.
- Preferred (EMS) 14001 and / or (OHSAS) 45001 certified auditor.
- Fire Life Safety Operations and code knowledge is a plus.
