Job Summary

Senior High School Counselors are professionals with an educational and/or mental health perspective who counsel all students with academic/educational, social emotional, or personal problems and concerns to promote increased learning and overall student success.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Computer and related technology skills are required.
  • Understand and practice services using BSD policies and ACA Code of Ethics.
  • Providing services to students through individual guidance, large or small groups to assist them with personal, academic, social emotional, and career needs.
  • Planning, engaging in, and promoting special programs that enhance the growth of students (i.e attendance, 504 meetings, Special Education, RTI).
  • Assist with registration and scheduling.
  • Guiding students in choosing courses as they follow ADE and district graduation requirements, individual student interest, abilities, and career plans.
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate student records and documentation as applicable and protect student confidentiality.
  • Identify at risk students (behaviorally, emotionally, academically) act appropriately, following intervention protocol or follow appropriate referral procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, parents, students, and community regarding meeting the needs of students.
Professional School Counselor

A Professional School Counselor should have the ability to apply knowledge of current research, analyze and interpret data to the benefit of the students and overall counseling department. They should also be able to plan and implement guidance lessons based on district and school objectives or by students' demonstrated needs, and establish and maintain effective relations with students, peers, and parents.
