Location Requirement: Candidate must live within, or relocate to within, 45 miles of the service center headquarters.

Job Qualifications
  • Under close supervision, perform tests, repairs, adjustments, and calibrations on relays, meters, telemeters, supervisory control, carrier‑current equipment, and related apparatus in laboratory and field.
  • Connect and read meters, instruments, and related equipment.
  • Take notes in field and laboratory and prepare routine reports.
  • Perform necessary housekeeping tasks.
  • Use hand tools and handle ladders for work on poles, structures, and towers, maintaining a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operate company vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Assist in switching operations.
  • Assist in constructing, installing, and maintaining relaying equipment.
  • Assist in storm restoration in substations and other groups.
Experience and Special Qualifications
  • Willing and able to learn company safety rules and administer approved resuscitation and first aid methods.
  • Maintain a valid automobile and truck driver’s license, TWIC card, or equivalent license and background check.
  • Responsible for company tools, instruments, and equipment.
  • Familiar with relay and spare parts stock.
  • Practical working knowledge of electrical circuits and equipment.
  • Read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Perform routine operations of moderate complexity and variety.
  • Learn and apply company electrical and mechanical tagging rules for a qualified switchman.
  • Obtain working knowledge of company practices and standards related to the work.
  • Complete all necessary and mandatory training requirements associated with the position.
  • Meet one of the following criteria for Relay Apprentice or Technician levels:
    • At least 2 years of equivalent work/training in a relay‑related field, or a two‑year associate’s degree specializing in electronics, instrumentation, computers, or engineering.
    • For Relay Apprentice 2nd Year: at least 1 year qualified as a 1st Year Apprentice, or equivalent work plus a two‑year associate’s degree, or at least 3 years of equivalent work/training.
    • For Relay Apprentice 3rd Year: at least 1 year qualified as a 2nd Year Apprentice, or equivalent work plus a two‑year associate’s degree, or at least 5 years of equivalent work experience.
    • For Relay Apprentice 4th Year: at least 1 year qualified as a 3rd Year Apprentice, or equivalent work plus a two‑year associate’s degree, or at least 7 years of equivalent work experience.
Physical Qualifications
  • Perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Possess the strength and endurance for arduous labor as required.
  • Work extended hours, overtime, or emergency work when necessary.
  • Have good hand‑eye coordination, physical dexterity, and color vision.

  • Possess keen observation skills.
  • Communicate orders and instructions clearly, earning respect from superiors and subordinates.

  • Attend and participate in safety meetings.
  • Provide customer‑oriented service at all times.
  • Work out‑of‑town assignments as required.
Company Testing
  • Must be eligible for the EEI TECH test.
  • Selected candidates will be invited via e‑mail; ensure monitoring of spam/junk folders.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Be available for additional hours, alternate locations, or extra duties during storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary.
