Position SummaryThis position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. In coordination with the Fitness Director, provides excellent member engagement through personal interactions such as talking to members, assisting with machines, greeting, and Smart Start Orientations. The position is also responsible for cleanliness of the fitness center and the recording of equipment in need of service.
EssentialFunctions
- PROGRAM MANAGEMENT—Complies with all program policies. Encourages members to participate in program activities.
- STAFF ENGAGEMENT—Works well with colleagues at all levels.
- MEMBER RECRUITMENT & RETENTION—Through Smart Start Orientation and through member engagement during each shift, the fitness floor staff is responsible for creating a warm and welcoming environment.
- FACILITY MANAGEMENT— Responsible for shift cleaning work and reporting of any equipment in need of repair.
- MISSION & CAUSE ADVANCEMENT—Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events through event promotion and member engagement.
- RELATIONSHIP BUILDING—Models relationship‑building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

- Entry requirements
:
Must be at least 18 years of age - Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in the field, but will consider applicants with appropriate experience.
- Must demonstrate an ability to work well people and follow instruction
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Requirements as of employment
: YMCA New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention and Blood Borne Pathogens training plus CPR/AED, First Aid, and Y Leader certifications within 30 days of hire date. - Employee Medical Statement, FBI/BCI&I fingerprints done
