Qualifications
- Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent
- Current Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standard
- Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
- Child abuse prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment, Oxygen Administration, and Y Leader training within 30 days of hire date
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard at the YMCA of Youngstown-Davis Family YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

- Maintains active surveillance of the pool area, guarding from lifeguard chair or patrolling at edge of pool deck.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.
- Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, responsibilities and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area as described in the Aquatic Staff Manual.
- Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
- Keep Aquatic area clean and decks free from clutter
- Attends staff meetings, in-services and trainings.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Maintains positive relations with patrons and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

- Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
