Associate Dean of Health Sciences
The Associate Dean of Health Sciences is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and strategic direction of the Health Sciences Division, including programs in nursing, allied health, and other health-related disciplines. The Associate Dean of Health Sciences ensures compliance for all healthcare programmatic accreditors. This position ensures that the division's academic programs meet the highest standards of excellence, preparing students for successful careers in healthcare.
The Associate Dean of Health Sciences will oversee faculty and staff, program development, collaborate with external healthcare providers and agencies, and foster a positive learning environment that supports student success and community engagement. This position is also responsible for collaborating with the other Deans and the Academic Vice President on curriculum in the management of all health sciences programs. The Associate Dean of Health Sciences may be required to teach classes if the need arises.
Provides leadership and oversight of the health science programs including: program curriculum, competency-based instruction, graduate portfolios, advising, student outcomes, dual enrollment, schedules, college catalog, development of new programs, program reviews, regional and programmatic accreditation, budget, institutional effectiveness, facilities, equipment, technological resources and continuous improvement of health sciences programs, ensuring they meet industry standards and accreditation requirements.
Cultivates partnerships and maintain strong working relationships with alumni, local healthcare providers, industry leaders, and government agencies to support educational opportunities, student placements, apprenticeships, preceptorships, employment, and program advisory committees. Represents the Health Sciences Division with internal and external stakeholders to establish and maintain community partnerships to include business and industry, K-12 systems, community and civic organizations, and other higher education institutions.
Supervise the health sciences program instructors including: recruitment, training, evaluations, maintaining professional credentials, development of class schedules, and assuring timely completion of instructional and student affairs reports. Assure that faculty members provide a proper instructional environment and maintains good human relations in the classroom so that learning is more effective by fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and communication among health science faculty and staff and the rest of the college.
Assists with preparing reports and policy statements required by the President, Dean of Career Tech and Workforce Development, Academic Vice President, accrediting agencies, the Alabama Community College System, and other external organizations.
Foster a customer service environment for fellow employees, students, and visitors. Be an Ambassador for the College. Support the college's initiative to maximize retention of current students and enable students to finish their collegiate goals.
Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the ACCS Chancellor's Office, and the College.
Participate in College functions (Award and Honor events, Alumni Homecoming, Commencement, Parson Days, etc.)
Assume other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the appropriately assigned College administrator.

QualificationsMaster's Degree in Nursing or a health sciences-related field from a regionally accredited institution is required. Doctorate Degree in a health sciences-related field from a regionally accredited institution is Preferred.
Clinical work as a registered nurse is required.
At least five (5) years of teaching experience in higher education is required.
Five (5) years of supervisory experience in a department level management in higher education or healthcare environment required.
Experience overseeing multiple departments/divisions, budgets, personnel supervision, and strategic planning is preferred.
