Purpose

The Music Lessons Instructor teaches private, semi‑private and small group lessons for students grades 4‑12. Teaches fundamental music elements of melody, harmony, form, tone color and expression in a studio setting. Plans, rehearses and produces a variety of on‑ and off‑campus performance opportunities and prepares music students for district, state and national competition.

Essential Job Functions
  • Supports the School’s mission statement and the philosophy of the department and adheres to School policies and procedures, including but not limited to what is outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Contributes to the development of a school culture where learning is paramount, and all individuals are encouraged, respected, supported, and challenged intellectually, socially, and emotionally
  • Creates a safe, caring, and productive learning environment that fosters wellbeing and maintains respectful and responsible behavior for each student consistent with the philosophy, values and mission of the school
  • Models and promotes respect for the diversity of student backgrounds, experiences, developmental needs, and learning approaches
  • Acts in loco parentis to students throughout the day and supervises students inside and outside the classroom, including but not limited to during arrival and dismissal, at carline, on buses and playground, and in cafeteria and hallways
  • Prepares assignments, quizzes and projects in a timely manner
  • Teaches and prepares students and presents student work at concerts, recitals, shows, performances, and competitions as applicable
  • Meets all deadlines, including but not limited to those related to taking attendance, submitting grades, and returning graded assessments to students
  • Supports and encourages students to reach their artistic goals
  • Has thorough knowledge and understanding of the content area and is able to share the material with students, offering additional help when needed
  • Provides individual, small‑group and large ensemble instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities and accommodates a variety of instructional activities
  • Keeps the classroom well‑organized (including common areas, storage areas) and controls use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize the time required for the distribution and collection of materials
  • Participates and contributes in departmental and divisional meetings, goal and objective setting, and activities as required; adheres to departmental and divisional expectations and protocols
  • Serves as a role model to students
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, and instructional aids
  • Keeps Fine Arts Director advised of all classroom and student developments, including but not limited to academic, behavioral, and emotional concerns for students
  • Helps students resolve conflicts in a professional, supportive manner; demonstrates knowledge of when to seek guidance and exhibits the ability to identify and elevate sensitive issues to the Department Head
  • Attends special days, including but not limited to performances and end‑of‑year celebrations/ceremonies
  • Attends all faculty meetings and teacher professional days
  • Responds to inappropriate behavior in accordance with Department protocols and expectations
  • Chaperones and supervises students at Fine Arts events on and off campus, including overnight if applicable
  • Teaches on both campuses as assigned by the Fine Arts Director
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee
Qualifications Education

• Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred

Experience and Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience teaching preferred

Certifications and Licenses

• Possesses a Teacher Certification from a state in the U.S. (preferably Florida);
Certification required for teachers of Lower School students
