The Director of Educational Design and Technology is a strategic academic leader who develops and sustains a K–12 innovation ecosystem that advances teaching, learning, and student engagement across all divisions. The Director integrates educational technology, instructional design, engineering, robotics, and experiential learning into a cohesive, mission-aligned program rooted in the values of Donna Klein Jewish Day School. This role supports faculty in designing innovative, student‑centered, and interdisciplinary learning experiences that foster curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and student ownership of learning.

The Director also contributes to professional learning initiatives and teaches a small course load while leading the school’s broader innovation efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: K–12 Innovation Vision
    • Design and implement a comprehensive K–12 educational innovation framework aligned with the school’s strategic priorities
    • Develop a vertically aligned progression of skills in design thinking, computational thinking, engineering, and digital fluency
    • Lead long‑range planning for innovation, coding, robotics, engineering, and experiential learning across all divisions
    • Serve as a thought partner to Principals and academic leadership on instructional innovation
    2. Faculty Development & Instructional Coaching
    • Provide sustained instructional coaching and collaborative support to faculty across divisions and disciplines in areas connected to innovation
    • Design and facilitate targeted professional learning experiences in:
      • project‑based learning (PBL)
      • design thinking
      • interdisciplinary curriculum design
      • educational technology integration
      • AI literacy, ethics, and responsible use in K‑12 contexts
    • Co‑plan and co‑teach with faculty to model innovative and developmentally appropriate instructional strategies
    • Provide Professional Development sessions to support faculty in integrating educational technology effectively into the classroom
    • Develop innovation cohorts, collaborative curriculum initiatives, and faculty learning opportunities specifically focused on instructional innovation and educational design
    • Equip faculty with the tools, resources, and support necessary to create engaging and transformative learning experiences
    3. Curriculum Design:
    Engineering, Robotics & Experiential Learning
    • Establish and grow Middle and Upper School programs in:
      • Makerspace guided curriculum
      • robotics
      • engineering design
      • coding and computational thinking
      • applied problem‑solving
    • Support Lower School alignment in partnership with existing educational technology staff
    • Develop interdisciplinary units alongside faculty
    • Build opportunities for student showcases, exhibitions of learning, capstone projects, competitions, and authentic community engagement
    4. Educational Technology Leadership
    • Evaluate and support the adoption of educational technologies that enhance teaching, learning, creativity, collaboration, and student engagement
    • Ensure technology integration supports meaningful teaching and learning
    • Develop guidelines for ethical, effective, and appropriate use of AI by divisions
    • Support digital citizenship education in partnership with the guidance team by division
    5. Innovation Spaces, Labs & Programming
    • Oversee the development and use of robotics and engineering labs
    • Establish systems for equipment management, project workflows, safety, and student access
    • Build partnerships and opportunities for external engagement, competitions, mentorships, and experiential learning programs
    • Support co‑curricular and signature programming
    • Ensure innovation spaces reflect a culture of iteration, exploration, and problem‑solving
    6. Collaboration Across Divisions and Departments
    • Work closely with Principals, Department Chairs, program directors, Director of IT, and the Lower School Educational Technology Specialist to ensure K–12 alignment and continuity
    7. Teaching Responsibilities
    • Teach 1–2 sections in engineering and robotics in Middle and/or High School
    • Use teaching responsibilities as a laboratory for curriculum innovation, instructional modeling, and faculty learning
