Job Summary

Under the direction of the Preschool Director and in accordance with the mission, core values, general policies, goals and standards established by the YMCA of South Palm Beach County, the Preschool Teacher is responsible for implementing the Creative Curriculum with aspects of the Reggio Emilia curriculum philosophy and providing a nurturing, well‑supervised and safe environment for the preschool children.

Job Requirements
  • Commitment to the Mission and goals of the YMCA of South Palm Beach County.
  • Teamwork and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, or a Certified Developmental Assistant (CDA) certification.
  • Completion of a 40‑hour Human Relations and Safety (HRS) course within 3 months of employment.
  • 10 in‑service continuing education hours per year.
  • Effective written and oral communication with parents, the Child Development Director, and staff.
  • Ability to lead a class with the help of an assistant.
  • Lesson planning that promotes readiness skills in Language Arts, Math/Science, Manipulation, Gross Motor, Arts, etc.
  • Classroom discipline following the school’s policy; report consistent negative behavior to the Director.
Essential Functions
  • Notify the Child Development Director of any absence.
  • Attend organized staff meetings.
  • Turn in lesson plans every Friday for the week.
  • Provide a parent newsletter every month.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly classroom.
  • Supervise and interact with children on the playground.
  • Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the Senior Director for youth and family programs.

  • Orderly classroom where children are happy and productive.
  • Parental satisfaction demonstrated through comments to the Teacher and Director.
  • Quality child care for all YMCA preschool students.

Qualifications

The Preschool Teacher must have attained a bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree from an accredited college or university or a CDA. A 40‑hour HRS course is required to be started within 3 months of employment and 10 in‑service hours per year of continuing education courses must also be completed.
