Center For Student Involvement Assistant Director
The Center for Student Involvement Assistant Director will provide direct development, planning, and implementation of all programs and services to foster a comprehensive and intentional student activities and involvement program. The Center for Student Involvement supports the mission of the institution and division of Student Affairs; promotes an active campus life; meets the needs and addresses the interests of a diverse campus population;
fosters the development of student organizations and their individual members; and contributes to the overall development of individuals and the campus community.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Assist in providing strategic vision and direct oversight to the following functional areas:
Student Programming, New Student Orientation, Student Engagement Ambassadors, and Community Service. - Ensure quality programs and services are provided that are intentional and include educational, social, cultural, and service components related to the Student Engagement Transcript.
- Manage, hire, train, and evaluate Student Engagement Ambassador team to ensure a high level of customer service and job performance is maintained. The student employee program will minimally have 10 student workers.
- Will directly develop, plan and implement programs and services New Student Orientation.
- Create and design innovative programs that foster student learning and development.
- Assist with constructing and assessing student learning outcomes for all programs and services.
- Negotiate and review business contracts related to programs offered by Student Involvement.
- Assist with the development, planning, and execution of campus wide programming efforts as needed, as well as major departmental and divisional initiatives.
- Assist in managing facilities within the scope of the job responsibilities through coordinating activities, maintaining equipment, enforcing University policy, and reporting issues to the appropriate department.
- Maintain professional conduct and ethical behavior at all times.
- Support and implement the divisional and University mission and strategic plan.
- Develop and implement comprehensive plans to achieve student satisfaction and support retention goals in relation to departmental services, objectives, and goals.
- Support and advocate for the needs and interests of students.
- Assist with ongoing departmental assessments of services and programs.
- Assist with completing monthly and annual reports for the department.
- Maintain and establish policies and procedures for the department.
- Serve as a campus responder during campus emergencies, including hurricane response.
- Serve on University committees and task forces as assigned.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
- Administer all other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in student leadership, orientation programs and/or programming.
- Prior experience in student group advising and/or student programming.
- Comprehensive understanding of current student development and learning theories.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong leadership, judgment, managerial, organizational, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
- Strong writing and public speaking skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
- Commitment to professional development.
- Experience in a position that clearly demonstrates the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Minimum qualifications
- Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration or equivalent in a relevant field; or four to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of demonstrated progressive student affairs management experience, preferably in student development, orientation, and student programs and/or activities.
