Job Summary:
The Principal Mechanical Engineer researches, plans, designs, develops, analyzes, and tests a variety of mechanical equipment items and systems, including chassis, hardware assembly, installation hardware, and installation design.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Ability to apply practical engineering science, design, and technology.
- Understanding of current manufacturing processes and how they relate to design.
- Conceptualize, design, and oversee fabrication of efficient complex mechanical systems and analyze for manufacturability and cost.
- Be able to understand and produce engineering drawings.
- Create procedures for carrying out various mechanical testing.
- Communicate changes in design and assembly with management and production staff.
- Estimate cost to produce design, including material and labor costs (assembly and fabrication).
- Calculate mechanical requirements to meet system design specifications.
- Understanding of static and dynamic events and how they relate to structural integrity.
- Ability to design electronic packages for harsh environments and maintain required reliability.
- Basic understanding of electronic circuits and their effect on mechanical performance.
- Working knowledge of techniques to mitigate EMI issues.
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience/Knowledge & License/Certification:
- PhD is optional
- A master’s degree is optional
- A bachelor's degree is required
- Training Pre-requisites (Within One Year of Taking Position):
- ESD
- Safety Training, as dictated by the Safety Department
Skills and Abilities:
- 3D Engineering analysis tools. (ANSYS/Solidworks Simulation etc.).
- Microsoft Office, including the use of Excel and an engineering tool.
