Environmental Engineer, Civil Engineering
Job Description
- Under light supervision, create basic to complex engineering designs involving site layout development, site grading and drainage, hydraulics and hydrology calculations, water distribution systems, collection systems, storage tanks and impoundments, foundation designs, stormwater infrastructure and treatment, and occasionally single‑story structures.
- Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
- Perform site reviews and studies as needed to ensure designs align with location specifications.
- Update design requirements as necessary.
- Contribute to the firm’s technical knowledge base by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs and studies.
- Submit technical papers and designs for publication to technical journals.
- Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to client requests for proposals (RFPs).
- Review draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices.
- Meet with current and potential clients to review their design needs.
- Attend conferences and symposia to promote the firm’s products and services.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff; mentor and develop them for future growth, possibly supervising their work.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam within 18 months of hire if EIT is not obtainable.
- Five years of related experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency is contingent on duties.
- Equivalent directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Performs other duties as required.
An appropriate and valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred QualificationsConstruction experience coordinating contractors and participating in quality assurance for progressive design‑build projects.
Travel RequirementApproximately 10% travel.
Skills and Abilities- Expert knowledge of CADD 3D and 4D software and practices.
- Expert knowledge of engineering principles of design.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
